Keith Raymond Ashton

June 30, 1932 ~ March 4, 2020 (age 87)


On the morning of March 4, 2020 beloved father, grandfather, and friend Keith Raymond Ashton died in his sleep in Tooele, Utah at the age of 87.8 years.  Child of Omar Ashton and Elva Mae Anquish Ashton, he was born at home in Meigs Township in Morgan County, Ohio on June 30, 1932.  His Ohio siblings included Rosemary Ashton McGinnis, Karen Ashton Reeves, Gary Ashton, and is survived by his brother Delbert Ashton of Bakersfield, California. Dad would tell stories of his father's furniture shop in McConnelsville, Ohio, attending a one room schoolhouse, graduating high school, and playing football in college. He got a degree in Big Machinery Mechanics. Dad traveled as a truck driver through every state, up into Canada, down into Mexico, and delivered a dredge through the Panama Canal, visiting Venezuela, Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico. He liked to talk to people and connect to people through the stories he told. He spent time as a race car driver as a hobby in his younger years, and worked on ranches since the seventies. His last endeavor was welding and building trailers during his retirement. He loved westerns and John Wayne. Dad could build, fix, and figure out how to do about anything. Dad believed in God, was baptized and saved as a believer of Jesus Christ that gave him peace in his final days. 

Keith Raymond Ashton is survived by 12 children, 42 grand children, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. Beautiful children of first marriage include eldest daughters: Barbara Ashton Adkins and Deborah Ashton Offenberger of Stockport, Ohio. Step children of second marriage include seven sons and daughters: Danny Mackney, Andy Mackney, Dotty Mackney McDonald, Carl Gene Mackney, Jerry Mackney, Tammy Mackney, and Sandra Mackney. Also, children born during second marriage of 42 years with Loraine Viola Johnston Ashton: daughters Teresa Ashton Evans, Anita Robin Ashton Watkins, and son Michael Brian Johnston Ashton. Dad spent his final days in Utah spending time with family, going 4 wheeling and out playing in the snow.  

Memorial Funeral Burial Services will be held in Shasta County, CA; date TBD.  His ashes will be buried at the old Parkville Cemetery in Anderson, Shasta County, Ca USA beside Loraine Viola Johnston Ashton.  Condolences, flowers, or donations can be mailed to Michael Ashton at 966 Fox Run Dr. Tooele, Utah 84074
