Thomas Rex Hammond

April 23, 1946 — August 24, 2023

Grantsville

Thomas Rex Hammond of Grantsville, Utah passed away on August 24, surrounded by loved ones, leaving behind a profound legacy of love, dedication, hard work, and service.  He is survived by his children: Troy (Heidi), Travis, Todd, Tovey(Fallen), Autumn (Josh Hancey); and his brother Larry.  He was the proud grandfather to 24 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents Thomas Alton Hammond, and Klea June Isgreen, beloved wife of 44 years Mary Ruth, brother Ron, sister’s Karen, and Jolene, and three grandchildren.

After Mary Ruth’s passing Tom married Barbara Peterson gaining a stepson Brian (Suzanne), stepdaughter Katie, four grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Tom was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints serving in many positions throughout his life including serving a mission with Barbara.

Tom led an extraordinary life that left an indelible mark on many.  After graduating from Tooele High School, and Weber State University, he enjoyed a 34-year career at Tooele Army Depot, where he excelled as the Chief Internal Review Audit Officer.  His dedication extended to his military service in Vietnam, where he proudly served his country.  For over 30 years, Tom selflessly assisted hundreds of Tooele County residents with their taxes.  Even when Tom was receiving cancer treatments, he was determined to continue to provide tax services, despite being hospitalized.

Tom spent countless hours on the golf course trying to perfect his swing, but his ultimate pride was being a grandpa; he loved going to ball games, school events, dance recitals, and special occasions involving his grandchildren.  We will miss him waiting for us at the front door when we pulled up and him walking us to the car when we left.

Tom’s love for adventure was evident in the memories he created with his family, from camping and hunting, to fishing, and shooting when his children were young.  He meticulously tended to his yard, a reflection of his care and dedication, even earning him the Grantsville Beautification Award.  His endearing and playful sense of humor was a source of joy to all.  Tom’s quick dry humor was evident often with statements like “Come back when you can’t stay so long”.

Tom also leaves behind the legacy of teaching his children and grandchildren the immeasurable values of hard work and service.  His life exemplified the importance of giving back and contributing to the well-being of others.

In his passing, Thomas Rex Hammond leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and a deep sense of family.  His absence will be keenly felt by all whose lives he touched.
