Ronald Larkin Peery passed away from acute pneumonia at Holy Cross Hospital, West Jordan on May 2, 2026, at the age of 77. He was surrounded by family and close friends. Ron was born January 15, 1949 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Herman Oliver and Helma Cook Peery. Ron married his high school sweetheart, Marion Rae Mascaro in the Salt Lake City Temple on August 14, 1970.
The life and times of “Strange Cat” (self- named) Ron. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints. Ron had a strong testimony in Jesus Christ and shared it with many. He served in many calling in the church. He, Marion, Matt and Maegan, served as a family in the Family Home Evening program at the Utah State Prison for two years and then Ron was called to serve six more years as a counselor. After then, he and Marion were called to be marriage sealing proxies at the Jordan River Temple for several years. Ron also served in the bishopric while still living in Union. His favorite callings though were as Scout Master and Elders’ Quorum President. Those years were filled with camping, river running trips, boating trips and lots of cookouts in their backyard. He also loved boating trips to Lake Powell with friends and family, family vacations to southern California, fishing trip to Alaska for Matt’s senior graduation. So many friendships along the way that he has continued to keep including several from his years at Hillcrest High School.
Following his graduation from Hillcrest High School, he was hired as a clerk at Roper train yard in SLC for the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad in 1967. After several years he was hired and trained as an engineer to drive freight train locomotives. It was his dream job. He was a fifth generation of Peerys. He also joined the Utah National Guard in 1970 and served six years. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1992 in communications and business. He loved his Utes! He also loved photography after taking a class at the “U” and was very good at it.
Ron loved Marion and his children, Matt and Maegan and his grandkids and great-grandkids. He was always giving them crazy adventures. Ron was a lover of people. He’d strike up conversations everywhere he went. If you were his friend, it was for life. He would help friends and strangers whenever he knew or saw there was a need to help them. When Ron told you he loved you, he really meant it!
Ron is survived by his sweetheart, Marion, children, Matt and Maegan. Grandchildren Kaetlyn (Codey), Trevor, Tryston ( Lexi), Brody (Katie), Wyatt, Chase and Ryker. Great-grandchildren Kayzden, Charlotte, Juniper, Krew, Addy. Honorary son Jake and grandson Zaiden. Beloved sister, Marita Stockford.
The family would like to express their love and thanks to so many family members and friends. They would also like to thank the doctors and nurses and other staff at Holy Cross for their tender care and help they rendered to Ron.
They would also like to thank Didericksen Memorial, in Grantsville, for Ron’s cremation and help with other services needed.
Ron’s Day of Celebration will be May 30th , 2026 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Grantsville ward house, cultural hall, 550 E Durfee St., Grantsville, Utah. There will be a short remembrance about Ron by Marion at 5:30. Dress is casual, please! In lieu of flowers, please donate your time or monies to those in need.
