Ronald Johnson

Ronald Fredrick Johnson passed away December 18, 2016 at his home in Fort Union, Utah. Ron was born February 13, 1940 in Fort Union to Virginia Eliza Webb and Glenn Leroy Johnson. Ron was the third oldest of five children. As a child, Ron liked to play in the canal in the backyard and often worked at his uncle Parley’s farm in Magna. He was one of the first students to attend Mount Jordan Jr. High School and graduated from Jordan High School in 1958. In 1959, Ron severed a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Northern States mission, and in 1962, he married his sweetheart, Barbara Springer Johnson, in the Salt Lake City temple. Their sealing was performed by Howard W. Hunter. They have three boys, Joel, Jeff, and Jason. Ron enjoyed coaching baseball and taking his boys and their friends fishing, especially to Deer Creek Reservoir. Many life lessons were taught in the green rental boats of the old Dear Creak harbor. He served in various callings in the church but enjoyed his home teaching assignment with Brother Homer the most. In 1970, Ron started his own cleaning service. Here he taught his boys the importance of a hard day’s work. He eventually worked full-time at the Salt Lake and Bountiful temples, where he enjoyed working in the house of the Lord. He was also a crossing guard for the Jordan School District for 30 years. Ron is survived by his wife Barbara, children Joel, Jeff, and Jason (Mayumi), and by his four grandchildren, Jake, Emma, Ty, and Tommy, all whom he loved dearly. The family wishes to express its gratitude to the wonderful nurses and staff at Silverado Hospice who helped take care of Ron and to Barbara, Joel and Jeff who never left his side. Funeral services for Ron will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 12:00 PM at the Union Fort 5 th Ward, 6770 S. 500 E., Midvale, Utah. Burial will take place following the service at the Riverton City Cemetery, 12830 S. Redwood Road.
