Marjorie Howlett Castagno

August 28, 1946 — May 5, 2025

Grantsville

Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and dear friend passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 5, 2025, from complications of Dementia with Lewy bodies.

Marge was born on August 28, 1946, to her loving parents, Chet and Elaine Howlett. She was the best big sister ever to her four younger siblings. She grew up in Wendover, and since there was no high school at the time, she spent the week in Grantsville with a “host family,” returning to Wendover for weekends and summers. While living in Grantsville, she met the love of her life, Clifford Castagno. They were married on July 17, 1964, and had four wonderful children together.

Marge lived in Grantsville in the same home for 61 years. She was very active in the community, including Beta, holding various church positions, and always volunteering in her kids’ classrooms and field trips. She was the ultimate caretaker and was her husband’s right arm. She always helped on the ranch, whether it was feeding the crew, bottle-feeding an orphaned animal, driving the truck while Cliff fed, or rounding up stray cattle. Marge worked at the local drugstore for many years and was a staple for the daily coffee crew.

Marge loved nothing more than spending time with her family. She was happiest when surrounded by her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. She was the type of person who would do anything for those she loved. Food was her love language. You could not come into her home without her offering to feed you—repeatedly. Some of her best memories were tending her grandkids (which she did a lot), preparing food for the annual branding crew, and hosting her family for every holiday. She will leave a void in all of our hearts.

Marge is survived by her son, Paul (Kathy) Castagno; daughters, Natalie Castagno, Camille (Mark) Shipman, and Tiffany Castagno; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. Also surviving are her sisters, Kathy Riddle, Peggy (Jon) Bunderson, and Lori (Jonas) Vece; sister-in-law, Kelly Morgan; and brother-in-law, Kevin Seaquist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; parents, Chet and Elaine; brother-in-law, Roger; and her baby brother, David.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Marge's daughter in law Kathy for being her primary caretaker these last few months. It would not have been possible for Marge to stay in her home without her help. For that we are forever grateful.

A funeral service honoring Marge’s life will be held Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Church on 81 N Church St. in Grantsville, UT. A viewing will precede the service on Friday from 6:00–8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00–11:00 a.m. Interment at the Grantsville Cemetery.
