Janet Lynn Fawson

August 23, 1947 — May 20, 2025

Grantsville

Janet Lynn Fawson was born August 23, 1947, to Lucille Evans and Lloyd Carlyle Pack, Sr. in Los Angeles, California, where she was raised most of her life. She loved her childhood there, always talking about the friends and neighbors who touched her life. She also witnessed the creation of Disneyland and kept her love for the park throughout her life.

While in high school, her family moved to Laie, Hawaii, while her father taught at the College of Hawaii for a year. Her time there instilled a great love of the islands in Janet. She learned to hula and visited multiple times.

Janet attended Brigham Young University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Clothing and Textiles. That was her study, but in reality, she was a natural in making a house a home. All were welcomed as friend and family. Her baking, ice cream bars, and laughter instantly drew everyone in. Creating a home was truly Mom’s specialty.

Janet was sealed to Gary Lyman Fawson on September 9, 1970, in the Los Angeles, California Temple. Together they built a life of work and pleasure. Together they created spaces of beauty and light for all to partake. Together they traveled the world. Together they worked side by side to build a life they wanted. Together they experienced the joys and sorrows life will bring.

Janet was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she devoted hours of her time serving in many capacities. Teaching was a gift and love of hers, and she loved learning. She took community classes in Spanish and received her teaching credential and taught a bilingual elementary class for one year. Later, she taught remedial reading at the elementary school for a few years.

After raising their five children in Ukiah, California, Gary and Janet moved to Grantsville, Utah, where Mom continued to love and serve. She created programs for the Old Folks Sociable, assisted Gary with the tree campaign, and hosted garden tours. She also spent many hours mowing their lawns!

After years of struggling with Parkinson’s Disease, Janet finally reunited with her husband on May 20, 2025.

She is survived by her five children: Emily Flake (Curtis), Andrea Smith (Jim), Richard Fawson (Elizabeth), Julia Hathaway (J), and Christine Hill (Ross); three of her siblings: Lyle Pack, Donna McEvoy (Roger), and Rachel VanValkenburg (Peter); and her 27 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Janet will be remembered most for her generous hospitality, her baking abilities, and her genuine interest in making other people happy. There are many who have been touched by her influence, which will continue to live on through them.

A funeral service will be held Friday, May 23, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. at the LDS Church on 550 E Durfee St. in Grantsville, UT. A viewing will precede the service on Friday from 1:00-2:15 p.m. Interment will follow at the Grantsville City Cemetery.  Services entrusted with Didericksen Memorial, 435-277-0050.
