Grantsville

Janet Gwen Edwards Cook, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully in her home in Grantsville, Utah, on January 23, 2025.

Janet was born on July 20, 1934, in Stockton, Utah, the daughter of John Henry and Maurine Edwards. She was the third of four children. After graduating from Tooele High School, she attended Brigham Young University. On September 14, 1956, she married Marlyn (Morley) Cook in Stockton, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Salt Lake Temple. Janet and Morley were blessed with four children: David, Crystal, Paul, and Matthew.

A devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Janet joyfully served in numerous callings, including as Relief Society President of the Grantsville First Ward. She had a gift for teaching others and a passion for serving those in need.

Janet was born with a deep love for community and civic engagement. She served as co-chairperson and committee member of the Grantsville Old Folks Sociable and faithfully attended the event throughout the years. Proud to be an American, she played a significant role in organizing July 4th celebrations and veterans' events. A strong advocate for the voice of the people, she also served on the Tooele County School Board and the Grantsville City Council.

Her greatest joy, however, came from her family. Janet loved hosting family gatherings for holidays and special occasions. Alongside her husband, she worked hard and sacrificed to provide the resources she felt were necessary to enhance her family's happiness and success.

Janet is preceded in death by her husband, Morley; her parents, John and Maurine Edwards; and her sister, Connie Wright. She is survived by her sister, Betty Shosted; her brother, Terry Edwards; her daughter, Crystal (Kevin) Hair; her sons, David (Holly), Paul (Cory), and Matthew (Dana) Cook; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Grantsville 1st Ward LDS Chapel, 115 E. Cherry St., Grantsville, Utah, on February 1, 2025, at 12:30 PM. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the funeral services and on Friday, January 31, 2025, from 6:00–8:00 PM. Interment will follow at the Grantsville City Cemetery.
