George Russell Anderson

George Russell Anderson, was born on 27 March 1958 to Margaret Joan and H. Alfred Anderson in Fortuna, California. He graduated from Fortuna Union High School. After high school, he moved to Grantsville, Utah where he joined the National Guard. Several years later, George went active duty into the US Army where he was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, MO and Fort Polk, LA. Upon finishing the service, George returned to Grantsville where he lived for another 42 years. 

George passed away at home on 27 January 2023, likely of a heart attack/long Covid complications. He is preceded in death by his father Al Anderson and survived by his mother, Margaret Joan Anderson, brother Leonard Anderson, sister S. Kim Hinkson, step-mother Jan Anderson and many nieces and nephews. They will all miss “Uncle Russ” very much.

George grew up loving to swim, hunt, fish and camp. After high school, George came to Grantsville with his father who worked construction. When his Dad left, George stayed. After the military, George worked for Grantsville Irrigation Co. when they were constructing the Grantsville water system. He was an inspector on the pipelines. Following that, he worked for Cargill Salt Co. as a heavy equipment operator for 15 years. Later, he worked on road construction as an operator and then worked making conveyer belts at various locations in Utah.

In 1992 George joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served faithfully in his calling to lock up the church building during his assigned months for many years.

Visitation will be on Friday, 3 February from 6-8pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 550 East Durfee, Grantsville. Interment and memorial will be in Eureka, California on 4 March 2023.
