Carrie Palmer Meehan
Our mother, grandma, aunt and friend, Carrie Palmer Meehan peacefully passed away the morning of Aug. 5, 2010, at a family home in the arms of her daughters. She was born in Columbus, Ill. on Jan. 27, 1927 to Henry and Mabel Steed. She married James Richard Palmer on June 20, 1945. This union brought nine children into the world; James Dean (Jeanie) Palmer, Beatrice (Dean) Johnson, Brenda Walters, Treasa (Larry) Perkins, Shirlene (David) Remington, Gregory Palmer, Michelle (Troy) Giles, Brett (Cindy) Palmer and DeAnn (Bill) Christiansen. Many years later they divorced.

She later married Jack Meehan, and they were sealed in the Manti Temple. With this marriage mom gained two more daughters Kelly (Bill) Boan and Kasey (Mike) Gieger and two additional grandchildren. For the next several years they made their home in Toquerville, Utah. Her life was richly blessed by her association with the many friends she made while living there. Mom and Jack loved to travel and enjoyed many vacations.

Mom has 43 grandchildren, 73 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild with more on the way. She loved the babies and enjoyed rocking and cuddling them for hours. Even in her later years she couldn’t wait to welcome and love each new grandchild that came along. She was proud of her family and felt so blessed to have such a large posterity. Her favorite hobbie was sewing. One memorable project was the little league baseball jerseys, sewing each letter and number on with perfection. She was a beautiful seamstress and enjoyed making baby quilts, prom dresses, bridesmaids and wedding dresses, levis, cheerleading costumes, dance costumes and custom draperies.

Mom was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed serving in the St. George Temple. She was an example of unconditional love and gentleness and never said anything mean or judgmental about anyone. One of her greatest virtues was patience. After raising her family Mom spent time caring for the elderly, many who needed a full time live-in caregiver. Their lives were blessed by her compassionate service.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jack Meehan, her parents, siblings and their spouses: Carlos (Donna) Steed, Ennis Steed, Esther (Dale) Porter, Martha (Carl) Ricketts.

Thank you Mom for giving us life and teaching us so many precious things.

We love you and will miss you dearly.

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 9 at the Grantsville Stake Center. A nice graveside service was held Tuesday, Aug. 10 prior to interment in Toquerville, Utah. Funeral services entrusted with Didericksen Memorial Funeral Home.
