Byron Joseph Elfors

Dec 15, 1939 — Jun 27, 2026

Grantsville

Our husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, and brother passed away peacefully, 27 June 2026 surrounded by his family. Byron was born December 15, 1939, in Tooele, UT to Joseph and Vera Sagers Elfors. His life was full of hard work, adventures, travel to many lands, and cherished memories with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He married his high school sweetheart on August 21, 1959 in Grantsville, UT. They were later sealed in the Logan Temple for time and all eternity. Alongside his wife, Joyce, they walked hand-in-hand through life’s many seasons, challenges, and joys. Together, they raised a family; their children were their pride
and joy. They were a great support to each other during their life and later during their retirement and illnesses.

Byron and Joyce have five amazing and loving children and were blessed to raise Jenise, Janeen, Scott, and Janae. Ronn, their first son, died at birth. Byron has shared many fond memories with each of us. Their posterity has grown to 25 grandchildren and 49 ½ great grandchildren. Since his illness he has enjoyed many special, one on one, times with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; he was proud of each of them. Byron was especially grateful for the service and love shown to him during his life and especially the last few months.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints; and served in the Elders Quorum, Boy Scout Master, and Home Teacher. He had a testimony of Jesus Christ.

He worked at Tooele Army Depot for about 40 years in various positions. He retired as a Quality & Reliability Assurance Specialist in 1993 and later went back to work for Morale Welfare and Recreation where he held various positions until his retirement in 2017. He also sold insurance and securities.

Byron was widely recognized for his remarkable skill as a woodworker and builder. His craftsmanship was not just a hobby, but a labor of love that shaped the lives of those closest to him. He crafted custom made creations, cabinets, desks, gun closets as well as cherished family pieces like doll cupboards and toy boxes. He completely built or remodeled both their homes.

He served on the Old Folks Sociable several times and he designed the 100 th Old Folks Sociable Coin. Byron was active in the Grantsville Lion’s Club and served as President.

He loved hunting, fishing, and any outdoor activity. He was on a bowling league for many years. He enjoyed going to Wendover to have breakfast and play Keno. He also loved eating at Jim’s Restaurant in Tooele and visiting with old friends and making new ones.

His legacy is one of resilience, quiet strength, and a profound dedication to his family. He is survived by his wife, Joyce of 67 years; children, Jenise (Gary Bartholomew) of Page, AZ; Janeen Anderson of South Jordan, UT; Scott (Carla) Elfors of Grantsville, UT; and Janae (David) Butler of Grantsville, UT. His posterity exceeds over 100 loved ones. He was preceded in death by Joseph and Vera Elfors (parents), Ronn Lee Elfors (son), and Gilbert Blaine Anderson (son-in-law).

Funeral Services will be held Monday, July 6, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. at the Grantville 4th Ward L.D.S. Church Building located at 428 South Hale Street in Grantsville, Utah. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service.

The family wants to express their gratitude to Dr. Carolyn Forbes, Katie Hymas, Taya Cowdall, Lexie, and other Canyon Hospice personnel for the expert care provided to Byron. Also, we want to thank Didericksen Memorial for their professional and loving support during this time.
