Alice (Gini) Virginia Buck

October 8, 1929 — April 10, 2023

Tooele

Alice Virginia (Gini) Bradford Buck died of pancreatic cancer on April 10, 2023 in Tooele, Utah, wishing she could see more of the world. Born in Atlanta, GA on October 8, 1929 to Lacy E. and Alice Young Bradford. She received her BA in English from Georgia State College for Women and Masters in Mass Communications from Boston University. Always restless to go somewhere else and see something new, she realized after three years of public teaching that her heart wasn't there, and joined the Navy. She firmly maintained that joining the Navy was the best decision she ever made. While going through Officer's Indoctrination in Rhode Island and at subsequent duty stations in San Francisco, CA; Macon, GA; Monterey, CA; Yokosuka, Japan; Washington DC; Boston; Iceland; Indianapolis; and Norfolk, VA, she constantly explored nearby destinations. After retiring from the Navy with the rank of Commander, she and her husband, retired Air Force Major John Buck, whom she had met in Iceland, formed their own aviation company. Both pilots, they continued seeing the country in their own planes. When John's health declined, they sold Mercury Airways, bought their first motor home, left their home in Virginia Beach, VA, and traveled full time from coast to coast for three years before settling in Tucson, AZ in 1988. Even after John's death in 1991, Gini traveled in a motor home, later car, for many summers and went on overseas tours and cruises during other parts of the year.

She was an active and happy resident of Tucson's Rincon Country West RV Resort, and an avid fan of UA women's basketball.

Gini was preceded in death by older brother, Gene (Doris) Bradford; younger brother, Robert Bradford; and stepdaughter, Suzanne (Mark) Poulson. She is survived by granddaughter Coryn (Matthew) Holmes of UT and their children; grandson, Chris Converse of AZ and his children; nephew, David Bradford (Darlene) of NM and their children and grandchildren; and niece, Susan Bradford of WA.

Remembrances can be made to Hermitage Cat Shelter, PO Box 13508, Tucson, AZ 85732, or The Humane Society of Southern Arizona, 635 W. Roger Rd, Tucson, AZ 85705, or to charity of choice.

Condolences may be sent to Family of Gini Buck, c/o Coryn Holmes, 411 S. Brock Way, Grantsville UT 84029.
